Delay is Denial.
Your dreams are valid, but if you’re not actively working towards them, they won’t materialize. Simple.
Many of us resist starting small or starting quietly. We want the big launch, the postable moment, you want something that says I’m here, Beyoncé. But remember this: ideas are never unique. What separates you from the next person with the exact same idea is execution.
You’ve already listed everything you need to bring your dream to life, you’ve calculated the cost, you’re applying for grants. And yes, grants help, but grants take time. While you’re waiting, life is ticking, and that dream is slowly slipping if you don’t keep it alive.
Think about those investor shows you watch. Have you noticed that everyone seeking funding comes with something to show? A prototype, a sample, a trial run. So ask yourself:
What do you have to show for your dream?
What can you build with what you have right now?
In 2020 I wanted to start a YouTube channel. I said I didn’t have a good phone. Later that year someone gifted me an iPhone SE, then I upgraded to an XS Max, 13 Pro Max, 15 Pro Max… and still didn’t start. I said it was because I was in school, because I wasn’t ready, because life was “lifing.” Now it’s 2025 and I still haven’t created anything of my own. I show up on other people’s channels, the videos do amazing numbers, but when it comes to my own work, suddenly I’m full of excuses.
I don’t fully agree with the quote “Excuse is the tool of the incompetent, a monument of nothingness,” but in my own case… it’s true. I’ve watched solid ideas slip right out of my hands because I wanted the perfect setup first. But perfection is a moving target, and sometimes it never comes.
Am I asking you to be mediocre, to aspire to be average? Hell, no. I’m saying that whatever you can do with what you have, do it at god level. Be ready to fall, be laughed at, make mistakes, but most importantly be ready to learn. Be ruthless and relentless when it comes to making your life work.
