New Year’s Resolution
Side Quest vs Main Quest
I’ve been having a slow awakening these past few days, but yesterday it hit me hard. I realized I’ve been indulging in too many side quests and slowly losing sight of my main quest.
It’s perfectly fine to be a jack of all trades, to have a 9 to 5 while running a business on the side, applying for scholarships, writing exams, learning a tech skill, and uploading consistently on YouTube. Ambition isn’t the problem. The problem is when you stop differentiating your side quests from your main quest.
Are you following?
There are different kinds of people in this world, each on a unique journey. After you’re done reading this bit, you’ll know where you belong… or maybe I omitted your case? Some have their goals clearly thought out and are doing everything possible to get there. Some have a lot going on but can’t really say where it’s all leading. Others have no clear picture of where they’re headed, so they simply do what their hands find to do.
This piece isn’t for everyone. It’s for people whose main quest is trapped in a web of too many side quests.
I can see you. You’re good at almost everything you set your mind to, it comes naturally to you. But you’re not giving your main quest the energy it demands. You’re treating it like just another side quest, when in truth, it’s the one thing capable of unlocking so much more for you.
Your main quest is the life you imagine when you create your mental mood board. It’s the path you admire in others, the one that quietly pulls at you when you think about who you want to become. And if I’m being honest, there’s probably a fear holding you back from pursuing it fully.
You know you’re capable. People tell you you’re capable. Yet you’re waiting for a nudge. The truth is, that nudge may never come. And while you wait, you risk missing your main quest, missing the life you keep imagining but never fully step into.
Your main quest is also the thing you’re afraid to take seriously because you know it will demand more of you. More discipline. More consistency. More vulnerability. Side quests are safer because they let you feel busy without forcing you to be exposed.
Side quests are beautiful. Being known for many things is great. We are dynamic, layered, and multifaceted. But there comes a point where you have to face your main quest head on.
Let this be your new year resolution. Channel your focus. Channel your energy. Put the spotlight where it truly belongs.
Your exercise is to identify your main quest.

Timely.
“Side quests are safer because they let you feel busy without forcing you to be exposed” This hits deep! Thank you for this thoughtful piece.
